“Fun, isolated, everyone together” - Inspired Traveler

The presence of Carol Dubé, Joyce Echaquan’s husband, alongside Elisapie Isaac in a segment tribute to victims of violent acts, in Live from New Year’s Day and “No more need to cram the government, cram in it alone”, launched by the Bougons in Gaspésie in Bye bye were respectively the image and the phrase of a successful evening of December 31 on Radio-Canada.

“The fun, isolated, everyone together”, is what the false Prime Minister Legault wanted in the “Arruda Show”, relevant opening sketch of the Bye bye 2020.

The challenge was not small for the designers of the four shows, Live from New Year’s Day, led by France Beaudoin, See you next year from Philippe Laguë’s team, Infoman by Jean-René Dufort and the Bye bye. In addition to the health constraints during filming, how to let COVID or not invade our evening, especially since each subject (PKU, conspiracy …) was likely to turn a part of the audience?

Bring together

The Bye bye 2020, after a first quarter of an hour, to say the least, worrying (The Kevin Parent lemonade, Les dents d’la Morin, karaoke sketch) will therefore have been skillfully unifying, gaining punch in a few scenes: the PCR test so invasive that it makes Claude Legault lose childhood memories, Sarah-Jeanne Labrosse perfect in Marie-Mai staging her move, then an impeccable sketch with Geneviève Schmidt on the delivery delays at “Poche Canada”.

Among the reassuring comic figures besides the Bougons, we have seen Yves Pelletier resuscitating Mr. Caron on the verge of being asked if his name is on the list of “prisoners …, er boarders” before being taken in hand by Laurent Duvernay- Late in person.

There is always to take and leave: the segment “Containment memories” could have been more wacky (see the real of “Stars in pandemic” at Infoman), as well as that of the news which united Pierre Bruneau (Pierre Brassard) and Céline Galipeau (mimetic Guylaine Tremblay) despite his relentless fall: “Gilbert Rozon has been acquitted. That’s all. This is the joke. This is called absurd humor ”.

But delicate subjects were brilliantly tackled: integration and racism with the audition of Simon-Olivier Fecteau for a role of native Quebecer by two black casting managers, with a formidable actor’s number of Preach; police profiling with Daniel Savoie, alias Patrice Lemieux, an ordinary racist (one of the many cameos of the evening) in training in Repentigny; conspiracy with Mehdi Bousaidan trying to understand how, supreme reversal, Lucie Laurier (Sarah-Jeanne Labrosse, really excellent) can in fact serve the interests of Bill Gates.

Political flicks well-dressed at the provincial level on the Blue Basket, a “directory”, and especially at the federal level with Simon-Olivier Fecteau playing Justin Trudeau discovering that we can print money. The 100 dollar bill plates? “Give in a pile to We Charity ; 5 or 6 inches! »The end of the sketch, futuristic desolate and orange, Canada 2179parody Blade Runner 2049 by Denis Villeneuve. Dialogue: “This is how Canada became a poor country”.

Briefly treating Trump as an individual unwilling to move to 2021, the Bye bye remained with a local vision of things which we are now used to (excellent parody ofOccupation Double, however, with Stéphane Rousseau as Jay Du Temple), but did not dodge the debates. A thank you to the word of encouragement, by the voice of Guylaine Tremblay, to restaurateurs, artists and other abused professions and a nod to the faux pas of 2019, the actor Michel Olivier Girard, flayed for free last year, coming to parody (far too kindly) Claude Legault in his ads for maple products: it would be more difficult to peel the maple tree during an evening as consensual as possible.

The catapult

France Beaudouin’s mission was to “kick off the evening”. She did much more than that: she catapulted it, reserving in a rolling fire of moments of emotion, in a subtly inclusive program while sweeping entry international news of the year (with the exception of the explosion of Beirut, forgotten during the evening) and social phenomena, underlining them adequately in songs (They love her for Meghan and Harry, Kiss Him Goodbye for Trump). The “Band Aid” formed of health professionals was greeted by the song Stand by me. These 90 flawless minutes illuminated by the smile of Louise Latraverse, animated with mastery had been started by the flight of the “I” of the famous Farine Five Roses brand by Ron Fournier in a helicopter to make it the “1” of 2021!

Jean-René Dufort addressed issues of discrimination from the credits given to Sarahmée. This Infoman grand cru did not hesitate to adopt a clear editorial line, in particular with regard to the conspirators, with a second, relentless edition of the Lip Sync Battle , sequence in which great actors double with great seriousness videos of people of which Régis Labeaume did not hesitate to say in the same program “I did not think that the collective intelligence quotient was so low”.

Dufort who forgot the month of January in his editing and spoke with a number of characters from various facts of the year (the driver the Zamboni who kept the goals of the Hurricanes, the Mc Closkey couple, the skateboarder TikTok phenomenon Nathan Apodaca) made people laugh with his “In the brain of Dr Arruda and Justin Trudeau” and think with “Insulthor”, segment in comic strip in which he severely tackled the runaway phenomenon of micro-aggressions: “He pronounced the word in Ä. In Ä? There aren’t any yet, but a group of activists didn’t take any chances and filed a complaint! “

In this show, where the statue of McDonald’s came to life and climbed back to its base, where Alexis Lafrenière propelled us in the hope of 2021 and where Huguette, from This is how i love you, pulverized “the year of marde” that Patrice Roy had sung at France Beaudouin’s, we heard in the “Palmarès des Chances” a very scathing juxtaposition of “I think it would be a beautiful experience” by François Legault with the parody “J ‘ would have liked to be an artist, to go pick strawberries ”…

Faced with all this, See you next year remains a singular bug, an excellent radio show that provides a strange television entertainment, very incongruous after the exceptional start of the evening concocted by France Beaudouin. The imitations of Véronique Claveau by Lara Fabian, Céline Dion and, above all, Pénélope McQuade carry the piece. Pierre Brassard is impeccable in Charles Tisseyre, Pierre Verville in Richard Latendresse, Dominic Paquet in Steeve, proclaiming his “Libââârter” and Philippe Laguë in Ron Fournier, guest common to the first three shows of the evening and forgotten from the Bye bye. But the ceaselessly elusive gaze of host Philippe Laguë reading his texts somewhere down to his left and a production with a ping-pong cutout do not match the level of finish of the rest of the evening.
